Fawzi Sultan

Born in 1944 in Bombay, India, economist Fawzi Sultan begins this interview by speaking about his childhood and education in India and Egypt. He then speaks about his visits to Kuwait, before settling down in 1958, and then going to the American University of Beirut to study economics. After his graduation, Sultan joins the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development in the sixties and the World Bank in the eighties. Sultan shares his remarks about shifts he witnessed in society and politics in Kuwait throughout the decades. Sultan also speaks about initiating the Free Kuwait movement during the Iraqi occupation of Kuwait and working on the plan for the reconstruction of Kuwait. Towards the end of the interview, Sultan mentions his work as president of the International Fund for Agriculture and Development, as well as his work with the Economic Reform Committee, before working with international research agencies.
