Aamal Al-Sayer

Born in Almurqab in 1956, Aamal Alsayer starts the interview with a brief family background and early childhood in Alqadsiyya. She then talks about her frequent visits to her mother’s family in Aljahra and describes their connection to nature there in detail. She adds that caring for animals and having knowledge of local plants was something her and her siblings grew up with. Influenced by her eldest brother, Alsayer always had an eye for beauty and developed many artistic talents. Alsayer recalls her elementary education and the teachers that impacted her most. As an excellent student, she explains that school was a joy and learning was something she loved. She then moves into talking about her university education. She tells us about studying social work in Qatar and Kuwait in the 1970s. Alsayer also speaks about marrying her cousin at a young age and starting a family while getting a university degree. The last session of the interview tackles the invasion of Kuwait. Alsayer tells us about being in London when the invasion happened while her husband and extended family were still in Kuwait. After the liberation of Kuwait in 1991, Alsayer speaks about the efforts made to rebuild Kuwait. The end of the interview focuses on her career in the field of learning difficulties and establishing the Kuwaiti Association for Learning Differences (KALD).
